Is there a Sql Svr 2003 Reporting Services version?
VS 2003 for development.
The host office is on sql 2003, according to the logo that comes up.
I was wondering if they have RS 2003 (i asked and have not received a
response)?
Is there such a thing? All I see in the forum are msgs about 2000 and 2005.
Thanks.
--
MichaelMHi
No, RS 2000 was released as an add-on for SQL Server 2000 about 2 years ago.
The next release will be SQL Server 2005 RS on 7 November 2005.

Is there a possible MS media player file demo of Reporting Service
that shows a demo of Reporting Services. The demo is supposed to show how to
access multiple textboxes in the Custom code, place a chart into a table,
etc...
Does any one know of the demo?
Thanks in AdvanceHave you looked on the Reporting Services web site for it yet? There's a
.wmv file at
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/reporting/productinfo/RS_AuthoringDemo.asp that
says it demos how to author, manage, and deliver reports but I haven't
watched it myself to see if it matches your description.

I've been impressed with what I have seen of it so far. I think getting a
book is a good idea. Knowing Teo, I'm sure it is a good one as well.
Definitely get one or both of these books it will save you a whole lot of
time.

Is SSRS right for our needs?
right for our needs. We have the following two requirements:
1) Users of our ASP .Net application pull reports from the new ASP .Net
SSRS embedded control.
(Users log in with Forms Authentication)
2) Automated nightly push of emailed reports to thousands of users.
Q1: Does the new ASP .Net embedded control for SSRS work with the
aspnet_users and aspnet_roles tables to identify the current user, display
the list of reports for them and manage security login to SQL Server?
Q2: Can the generation of SSRS report Excel-Output be automated to file
from a nightly SQL Server Job or perhaps from an application that is kicked
off at midnight?
I apologize if this seems a little vague. It's almost as if asking the
question is more difficult than answering it. Ultimately, the question is:
Will SSRS meet our needs for both Pull and Push reports?

If I'm following you correctly, in Q1 you are referring to the report
viewer control (which works w/both Crystal Reports and Reporting
Services). The current user is available in SSRS via this expression:
=User!UserID.ToString
As far as I know, controlling access to SQL Server is done via the
datasource set up and controlled via the Report Manager. Otherwise,
controlling report access can only be set via general user security in
the Report Manager. Users can be set up to just browse/view reports,
etc (but no control over which reports, just all). Of course, the
stored procedure/query that sources the report can control whether or
not the user sees the results if the stored procedure accepts an input
parameter that receives the User expression given above.
In regards to Q2, the Report Manager has built in snapshot reporting
and scheduling, etc. The report can be scheduled to execute on a
schedule and exported to Excel.
The main difference between Crystal Reports and Reporting Services is
that the license for SSRS is free w/a SQL Server license on the same
box; however, Crystal Reports requires its own license. So, SSRS is
much cheaper on the budget. Also, Crystal Reports and SSRS have
slightly different export options. SSRS has very convenient report
export scheduling.
Hope this helps in your decision.

Is SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) a new product or just the upgrade version of DTS?
Hi, all,
I am having a question about SSIS. Is it a totally new product in SQL Server 2005 or it is a upgrade version of previous version DTS? Thanks a lot for any guidance for that.
With best regards,
Yours sincerely,
It is the successor to (or replacement for) DTS, but it is not an upgrade. There is no code from DTS that made it into SSIS. Therefore yes, it is a totally new product.

Is SSAS a new version product or it is a upgrade version of SQL Server analysis services 2000?
Hi, all here,
I am having a question about SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services. Is it a new version product or it is a upgrade version of SQL Server 2000 analysis services?
Thanks a lot in advance for any guidance and advices for that.
With best regards,
Yours sincerely,
It is a new OLAP and data mining engine.
There are some upgrading issues especially regarding dimensions. In AS 2005 everything was about hierarchies but in AS 2005 a dimension consists of attribute hierarchies(flat hierarchies) and user hierarchies(the old AS2000 version of dimensions)
A virtual cube is the same as a cube in AS2005. Measure groups is the same(almost) as the AS2000 physical cubes.
Some changes in MDX have also appeared.
Have a look at www.microsoft.com/sql for more information.

Is SQL Server Service Manager still existing on SQL Express Edition?
Hi there. I am new to the SQL Express. I just finished installing the SQL Express 2005 with Advanced Services on a Windows XP SP2 computer. The first thing I noticed was the service manager (used to be on the taskbar) was being removed on the Express Edition. How do I get this feature back if it's even possible? I know you can find out the server status from the Configuration Manager but it's handy if the status is showned on the taskbar after logging in.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
KC
There is no Service Manager in any SKU of SQL Server 2005. There are some folks out there that have written their own however. Is SQL Server required?
Hi
If the source tables for Analysis Services 2000 and 2005 are all coming from Oracle, is there any reason why we need to have SQL Server installed as well?
Thanks
Steve
Nope!
-Jamie
Is SQL Server DB is required?
Hi,
I wanted to use MS SQL Reporting services with Oracle as database.
Please let me know whether the installation of Sql Server Database is required in this case?
Please, can any one suggest me in this regard.
Thanks
To install an SSRS environment it is required. SSRS relies on 2 SQL Server DBs to hold information such as report definitions. As a datasource for reports, SQL Server is not required.
Is SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services FREE ?
Yep, it's free.
