Is there a equivalent tool to Oracle HTML DB for SQL Server

Oracle have released a free download to enable non-developers without
application development experience to quickly build professional web
enabled applications.
The tool oracle as released for download at this URL:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/index.html
is there a similar tool for SQL Server from Microsoft. Apparently,
Oracle features even case studies where customers have rapidly built
even planning and budgetting applications with the Oracle HTML DB.
I know a much primitive tool to Oracle HTML DB was available a while
ago for SQL Server called web matrix but now that as disappeared. I am
keen to see a similar tool for SQL Server to rapidly build web
applications.

but still it needs coding. If you look at the Oracle Express I got a
evaluation userid and uploaded some of my spreadsheet databases I
maintain my catalog of DVDs, Music CDs and books into the Oracle
database without one line of coding and now I can securely sign on to
this web site and maintain all my information not only that it as all
fancy reporting components built in like gauge, charts,etc all from a
web browser user interface. All this does not need even one line of
coding. I tried it myself.
The development tools themselves are all web based. Oracle is pitching
it at companies to get rid of Access and Excel databases and store data
in a central & secure location with the Oracle Application Express. I
want to do the same with SQL Server provide tools that empower the end
users to setup their own applications all based on the web. This will
make it attractive for users maintaining Access databases and
spreadsheets causing all kinds of chaos to move into a centralised
managed environment but still have all the flexibility they wanted.

I know Oracle is pushing Portals and use it as one frontend for all
your business needs.
But if you are using Word, Excel you want one platform where you can
store all your information structured and non structured. With WebDav
this nis very easy just save your word doc and it is automatic in the
folder in your portal. Can this be more easy no upload just works as
you used before and look at the great Application Builder. It is even
easier than Access to make solution and automatic webbased, incl.
reporting!

Today IT managers are trying to reduce the number of vendors Microsoft,
Oracle
and IBM are the shortlist of the software vendors. We want a solution
for
SQL from Microsoft besides we do not want to use Access and Excel to
store data
if it is structured data it must reside in SQL and have a good web
based
tool to build data capture and reporting on it which end users can do
it. I
would say Microsoft must even extend this to Analysis Services to be
able to
store data into Analysis Services and do reporting of analysis Services
all from a web frontend. To me it does not sound rocket science Oracle
have
already built the web application express which end users or business
analysts
can customise and deploy a enterprise wide solution.
What I am referring to in the Oracle Application Express is a great
simple
and very effective web enablement solution for the relational database
it almost
does the same thing what Access provides a simple mechanim to capture
and report
on data except unlike Access it does not have scalability, security &
deployment
issues. With companies running SQL Server extensively I was wondering
if there is
a similar tool like Oracle application express for SQL Server the
Oracle app express
as everything to build small or large transaction/data capture systems
and report
on the data and secure the application and still leave the data on a
secure
backend systems than having spreadsheets and access databases all over
the place.
Appears so far I have not heard that such a similar tool exists for SQL
Server
perhaps we will wait until Microsoft builds a similar SQL Server Web
Application
Express or something like that :)-

Is there a Detail Header??

I have a report which has a Group Heading Row which has a group item, I have enabled drill down but I would like the headings for the details only to appear when the users dills down. By default the details headings are shown all the time in the Group Heading line, I thought there may be a Detail heading Row? Is their such a thing or does anybody know how I can get around this?

Also can I squeeze in another quick question, I am calling a my SQL Report via a webservice, but I dont know how to write my report out to a Placeholder on my page. I am currently using the response.BinaryWrite method

|||I've done that by adding a new row to the group header that contains the detail column names. Set it to invisible and its toggle item to be the first row in the group header. When you click the group header, the 'detail header' with the detail lines below it will become visible.

Is SQL 2005 TAPI compliant?

(I don't know what I'm talking about here so be kind....)
Jeff.I think you first need to say what you mean by TAPI. The only TAPI I know of is an old API from MS
and Intel: Telephony Application Programming Interface.
Is this what you mean? No, there's no built-in support for TAPI in SQL Server, and I have a hard
time to see what this would do. Dial a number when somebody inserts data into a table? ;-)
SQL Server is pretty extensible, though. So you can use extended stored procedures (2000) or CLR
objects (2005).

Is Service Broker Enabled?

Hello,

I've been trying for two days now to get SQL Cache Dependencies to work. So far, nothing has worked, and I have been around the block a few times now on this one. So now I'm going back to basics, as I think my code and queries are fine. My first question is how to confirm that I have a Service Broker that is up and running. I am using SSX as my database engine. Other posts mention how the "look at the service broker folder", and I don't see a folder anywhere. Can someone tell me what to look for? I've added various SP's based on tutorials on web sites, so I can't tell if those SP's are mine or theirs at this point (I've been at this too long). Where is the "folder" the other posts have mentioned? Do I need to do anything special to get it? Did I install all the right files?

Service Broker is built in into the SQL Server engine, is not possible to install/uninstall the broker compenent independently of the engine itself. Is has no external files/folders whatsowever. So if you have a SQL Server 2005 instanc eup and running, then Service Broker is up and running too. That being said, individual databases can have the broker in them disabled. To check this, look into the is_broker_enabled column in sys.databases. I guess the 'Broker folder' adice you found refers to the Object Explorer view in SQL Server Management Studio.

One place I would look first to troubleshoot SqlDependency issues is the sys.transmission_queue view in your database. If notifications were fired but cannot be delivered, you will find them there, pending delivery. The transmission_status column should indicate the reason why they cannot be delivered.

Yes. Note that the Express version of the Management Studio doesn't have a 'Service Broker' folder in it's Object Explorer.

There is nothing in the sys.transmission_queue. I'm not even sure messages are GETTING to the database. In my event log, I just noticed a message I haven't seen before. It says:

Service Broker needs to access the master key in the database 'EventSystem'. Error code:25. The master key has to exist and the service master key encryption is required.

I'm not sure what this means. I suppose it's a starting point. Have you seen that one before?

Overall, I'm VERY frustrated with the Service Broker and cache dependencies. I've added more stored procedures and granted more permissions than should be necessary for a feature that is "built in" and "easy to use". So far, the exact OPPOSITE is true.

I found a post that suggested I needed to create a master key. I ran the following statement:

CREATE MASTER KEY ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = '1ComplexPassword!'

Next, I ran my code again, and saw the following error in the logs:

The query notification dialog on conversation handle '{A1AFE272-1391-DB11-B928-0004230B9AA7}.' closed due to the following error: '<?xml version="1.0"?><Error xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQL/ServiceBroker/Error"><Code>-8490</Code><Description>Cannot find the remote service 'SqlQueryNotificationService-15eb7e6d-e2b3-4355-b082-8f0235f5fe3f' because it does not exist.</Description></Error>'.

I thought I had run all procs that were necessary after going through literally a dozen pages on how to set this all up, but perhaps I missed one? I sure wish a single web site had steps that I could follow to get this all to work, start to finish. I promise to post all my steps when I am done, because I am sure others are having the same problem as me.

I had similar problems.

The reason for my problem was that the database was in SQL Server 2000 compatibility mode.
Changing that to SQL Server 2005 helped.

Is my SQL Server 2000 cluster 2+1 LAM enabled?

Someone (who left the team) has setup my SQL Server 2000 Cluster1\Myinstance
It *was* setup to do log-shipping to a DR server and I thought he has setup
the instance to be 2+1 LAM Enabled before he left.
What tools/techniques can I use to see if the instance is 2+1 LAM enabled
and the nodes under the cluster, for I can see the log-shipping is still
enabled!What does LAM mean?
Have you configured Log Shipping Monitor? It will show you how log shipping
is configured and give you statistics on how it is performing.

recovery server (which would require connecting clients to change the host
name), but I want to find out if a DR node exist within the cluster (which

log-shipping DR server.

configuration. Multiple nodes share a single failover node.
In this case your log shipping destination (called a secondary) should float
between nodes and it is transparent to log shipping which node is it
shipping to as it ships to a virtual server.
If your DR server is in a different location and not part of the cluster,
again it is transparent to the primary (the log shipping source) where you
are shipping to.
